About this pattern

TECHNIQUE - PLEASE READ FIRST: RAW-EDGE FUSIBLE APPLIQUE

This is a raw-edge fusible applique pattern. The templates print at FINISHED SIZE with NO seam allowance and NO dashed turn-under lines, and they come as numbered full-size layout sheets - not as separate cut-out pieces. You trace each shape onto paper-backed fusible web, iron it to your fabric, cut on the drawn line, peel, press it in place, and stitch over the raw edge with a blanket or narrow zigzag stitch. Paper-backed fusible web is required. This is NOT a turned-edge / needle-turn pattern, and there are no dotted seam-allowance lines to turn under.

This joyful design features a magnificent hummingbird in mid-hover, its body pieced in a glorious mosaic of teal, cobalt blue, emerald green, and sweeping violet and lavender wings that seem to shimmer with motion. The bird is set against a crisp white background and surrounded by bold folk-art blooms in hot pink, sunny yellow-orange, and rich purple, all nestled among deep green geometric leaves. Scattered golden eight-pointed stars and sparkling diamond shapes float through the composition, giving the whole scene a magical, celestial garden feel. Every element is rendered in the raw-edge applique collage style, with confident geometric shapes and vivid colour contrasts that make this pattern an absolute delight to cut and fuse together.

💡 WHITE OR NAVY - YOUR CHOICE: the fabric colour chart is written for a WHITE background, but several of the photos show the very same design made on a deep midnight-navy ground.

The 11" size is included for anyone who would like that option - a tote bag, a cushion front or a small hoop. Do note the pieces are a bit small at that size: many stitchers merge a couple of neighbouring pieces cut from the same fabric, or leave the tiniest accents out, and the design still reads beautifully.

About how this was made: The initial design idea was developed with the help of AI tools. I then drew each design by hand as an original vector illustration in Adobe Illustrator and built the pattern myself: the templates, colour placement and sewing instructions.
